Deconstructing Emigration: Cultural Identities
08/07/2023 @ 19:00 - 21:00Free
As we commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Sailing of The Hector from Lochbroom to Nova Scotia, Ullapool Museum looks to deconstruct the stories surrounding the mass migration of people to Canada by inviting academics, heritage consultants and first nations representative to discuss the wider impacts and effects of emigration to the New World.
On the 250th we welcome all the visiting diaspora to Ullapool Museum to have a bit of a get together and open discussion around cultural identities. Dr Marjory Harper will host an open discussion with all of our visitors to see how immigration has effected our families by asking how difficult is it to maintain a cultural heritage that is removed from the geographical homeland? How do you feel when you return to the country of your ancestors? What connects you to your ancestors?
Refreshments and Music will be provided by Ullapool Museum
