Deconstructing Emigration: The Mi’kmaw Story

29/06/2023 @ 19:00

Free

As we commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Sailing of The Hector from Lochbroom to Nova Scotia, Ullapool Museum looks to deconstruct the stories surrounding the mass migration of people to Canada by inviting academics, heritage consultants and first nations representative to discuss the wider impacts and effects of emigration to the New World.

In our second event we welcome Dr Roger Lewis, Curator of Mi’kmaw Cultural Heritage at The Museum of Nova Scotia and Dr Michael Vance of St Mary’s University to discuss the impact of mass migration on the first nations people in Nova Scotia. How did an influx of peoples effect their lifestyle and what is the legacy of immigration of first nation culture?
